Actress Shweta Tripathi, who is gearing up for the release of Mirzapur: The Movie, says her long-standing love for books helped her naturally connect with her popular character Golu Gupta.
Shweta said her curiosity, independent thinking and constant desire to learn are qualities she shares with Golu, adding that reading never felt like research while preparing for the role because books had already been a part of her life for years.
“Every actor hopes they’ll meet a character who already understands a part of them. For me, that was Golu. Her love for books never felt like research because I’d been living with that habit for years,” she said.
The actress added that she often enters a bookstore intending only to browse but ends up leaving with several books.
“Books have shaped the way I see people and the world around me. As an actor, you’re constantly trying to understand why someone behaves the way they do, and books allow you to step into hundreds of lives without leaving your own,” Shweta said.
She believes reading has made her “less judgemental, more empathetic and endlessly curious”.
Shweta also highlighted similarities and differences between herself and Golu. While both are driven by curiosity and a desire to question things, she said Golu is more reserved, whereas she enjoys conversations and expressing her feelings.
Directed by Gurmmeet Singh, Mirzapur: The Movie is presented by Amazon MGM Studios in collaboration with Excel Entertainment. The film is backed by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar and co-produced by Kassim Jagmagia and Vishal Ramchandani.
The movie brings back Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Rasika Dugal, Shweta Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar and Harshita Gaur, along with newcomers Jitendra Kumar and Ravi Kishan.
Mirzapur: The Movie is scheduled to release in cinemas on September 4.
