Veteran actress Kalpana Iyer has made an emotional appeal to people in the entertainment industry, asking them to maintain basic courtesy and inform her when a work opportunity does not materialise.
Taking to social media, Iyer said she does not expect special treatment or to be treated like a “diva”, but believes that honest communication and respect should not be too much to ask.
“If you contact me for work and it doesn’t work out it’s OK but Atleast have the decency to inform me,” she wrote.
She added, “We can always work some other time…it’s Life and @70 I know that for Sure. So Please. Be Fair Be Decent and Be Kind.”
Explaining the reason behind her post, Iyer said she has been trying not to become upset over things beyond her control but felt that being left without communication was unfair.
“I want to do Everything that comes my way and I don’t want to be treated like Some DIVA but I expect Decency and Respect that is not asking for too much,” she wrote.
The actress acknowledged that the entertainment industry has changed and that people have their own priorities and choices. However, she said she does not expect every opportunity to materialise and would rather be informed so she can understand the situation and, where possible, suggest alternatives.
Iyer clarified that her post was not directed at any particular individual.
“I am naming no one Person or Any One in Particular because That is not What This Post Is About. It is about a 70 year old Saying BE FAIR and DECENT and I Think I Can Expect This From You,” she wrote.
Iyer returned to the spotlight earlier this year after a video of her dancing to her iconic song “Rambha Ho” went viral. At 69, she recreated the popular number during the wedding celebrations of a friend’s son in Siliguri.
The song also gained renewed attention following its use in filmmaker Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar. Iyer originally performed “Rambha Ho” in the 1981 film Armaan.
The viral moment also prompted the actress to speak about her desire to return to acting. She has expressed willingness to work in Hindi films, television, OTT, stage shows, advertising and reality programmes, provided the roles are appropriate for her age.
Apart from “Rambha Ho”, Iyer is known for songs including “Hari Om Hari” and “Jab Chhaye Tera Jadoo”. Her acting credits include Satte Pe Satta, Disco Dancer, Anjaam, Raja Hindustani and Hum Saath Saath Hain.
After stepping away from the Hindi film industry, Iyer moved to Dubai in 1999 and entered the restaurant business.
