CM Vijay Likely to Visit Britain from September 10 to 16 to Woo Investors

Chennai, September 2, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is likely to undertake his first overseas visit from September 10 to 16, travelling to Britain as part of the state government’s efforts to attract fresh investments and strengthen engagement with global companies.

The proposed visit is expected to focus on projecting Tamil Nadu as a preferred investment destination across multiple sectors. Vijay is likely to meet business leaders, corporate executives and potential investors, highlighting the state’s infrastructure, skilled workforce and established industrial ecosystem.

A senior government official confirmed that preparations for the Britain visit were underway, although the Chief Minister’s detailed itinerary has not yet been finalised.

During the visit, Vijay is also expected to oversee the signing of memoranda of understanding with companies interested in setting up or expanding operations in Tamil Nadu.

Sources said the government was considering adding more countries to the tour, depending on the availability of investors and the scheduling of official engagements. Details of the delegation accompanying the Chief Minister are expected to be announced later.

The overseas investment outreach comes after the Tamil Nadu government said the state had secured investment commitments exceeding Rs 1 lakh crore during its first 100 days in office. A significant portion of the commitments came at an investors’ conclave held in Chennai in August, where 97 MoUs involving proposed investments of Rs 67,452 crore were signed.

The government has described the commitments as an early achievement and an endorsement of its industrial strategy.

Vijay’s proposed Britain visit is expected to take the investment campaign to an international audience and provide direct access to companies considering manufacturing, technology and services projects in India.

The initiative comes amid growing competition among Indian states to attract major industrial investments. Andhra Pradesh, in particular, has stepped up its outreach to domestic and international investors, prompting Tamil Nadu to strengthen its engagement with global business networks.

Ahead of Vijay’s proposed tour, state Industries Minister Keerthana is likely to travel to Taiwan on September 4 to attend SEMICON Taiwan as part of Tamil Nadu’s efforts to engage leading semiconductor, electronics and component manufacturers.

The two proposed missions reflect the government’s strategy of combining high-level political outreach with sector-specific engagement to convert investment commitments into projects, employment and economic growth.
