Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab chief spokesperson and MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal on Wednesday accused the BJP-led Central Government of using the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as a political weapon against the Punjab government and AAP leaders.
Addressing a press conference, Dhaliwal alleged that the BJP was relying on central investigative agencies after failing to establish a mass political base in Punjab. He described the ED as the BJP’s “parrot” and claimed that repeated communications from the agency were intended to create a media narrative against the state government rather than facilitate a genuine investigation.
Dhaliwal referred to a letter sent by the Punjab Director General of Police to the ED on August 28, stating that documents received from the agency were not readable. He said the Punjab Police had asked an ED officer to appear at Police Headquarters on September 1 with the relevant documents for clarification.
“On August 28, the DGP, Punjab, clearly wrote to the ED that the documents sent by it were not readable. The police administration asked the ED to send one of its responsible officers to Police Headquarters on September 1 with the documents. But no officer came,” Dhaliwal said.
He alleged that the development indicated that the ED’s objective was to generate negative publicity against the Punjab government and its leaders.
Dhaliwal further accused the BJP and central agencies of attempting to put pressure on AAP leaders and disrupt the development work being carried out by the Punjab government.
“The sole objective of the ED and BJP is to stop the unprecedented development works taking place in Punjab and to mentally harass and defame AAP leaders,” he said.
The AAP leader also referred to earlier cases involving senior party leaders, claiming that attempts to intimidate the party through arrests and legal cases had failed to break its unity.
He warned that repeated action by agencies such as the ED and CBI would not weaken the AAP and asserted that the party would return to power in Punjab in the 2027 Assembly elections.
Dhaliwal also launched a sharp attack on the BJP over the farmers’ protest, alleging that the party was responsible for the deaths of more than 750 farmers from Punjab during the movement. He further accused the Centre of withholding development funds meant for Punjab and creating obstacles in the state’s development.
Calling the BJP “Punjab’s number one enemy”, Dhaliwal said people in the state had witnessed the Centre’s actions and would respond through the ballot box.
“We are not going to be afraid of these false cases. Just as truth prevailed in Delhi and false cases were exposed, truth will prevail in Punjab as well and the BJP’s conspiracies will be completely exposed,” he said.
