‘Why Are All Ministers Silent on Rape of Minor?’ UP Congress Chief Targets BJP Government

Lucknow, September 2, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the BJP government over the alleged gang rape of a 16-year-old girl inside a moving sleeper bus in Greater Noida, questioning what he described as the silence of ruling party leaders and ministers.

According to police, the teenager was allegedly sexually assaulted inside an empty sleeper bus by its driver and conductor earlier this month. Both accused have been arrested in connection with the case.

Addressing reporters, Rai said, “Today, the BJP is in power from Uttar Pradesh to Delhi, yet no minister is ready to speak. All their women ministers are sitting silent.”

He alleged that women and children were facing atrocities in Uttar Pradesh and criticised the state government over its handling of crimes against minors.

“When such incidents happened during our tenure, the Congress party extended full support to the victim. Today, I believe the BJP government is completely responsible,” Rai said, while alleging that cases involving very young children had also been reported in the state.

According to police, the incident occurred near Pari Chowk on August 4. The survivor alleged in her complaint that driver Kuldeep and conductor Sandeep sexually assaulted her and threatened to kill her if she resisted. The accused allegedly abandoned her near Kashmere Gate in Delhi.

Police arrested the two men from a parking area in Timarpur on the same day. The bus was seized and sent for forensic examination, while CCTV footage from the route was collected to establish the sequence of events.

The teenager, a resident of Mainpuri, had travelled towards Noida Sector 63, where her cousin lives. Police said she had left home without informing her family after being reprimanded by her mother over her studies.

According to her statement, she mistakenly got down at Pari Chowk amid heavy rain and darkness. After realising she was at the wrong location, she attempted to find another vehicle and eventually stopped the sleeper bus. Police said there were no passengers inside at the time.

Earlier, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi had also condemned the incident, alleging that the Delhi-NCR region had become unsafe for women.

“Delhi NCR has become so unsafe for women that a minor girl was gang-raped for 47 kilometres in a sleeper bus — from Greater Noida to Delhi,” Gandhi said in a post on X, questioning how the incident went undetected by the Delhi and Noida police.
