The Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) on Wednesday handed over a cheque of Rs 65.50 lakh to the family of Satpal Singh, a conductor at the PRTC Patiala Depot who died in a road accident in 2025.
PRTC Chairman Harpal Juneja, Managing Director Manisha Rana and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab general secretary and media in-charge Baltej Singh Pannu visited the PRTC headquarters in Patiala and expressed condolences to the bereaved family.
Baltej Singh Pannu said the Punjab Government and its institutions were committed to the welfare of employees and their families in accordance with the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. He said financial assistance was being provided in cases of accidental deaths occurring during duty and that all PRTC employees were covered under the insurance scheme.
Pannu said the Rs 65.50 lakh assistance provided to Satpal Singh’s family reflected PRTC’s commitment to supporting the dependants of employees in difficult circumstances.
PRTC Chairman Advocate Harpal Juneja said the corporation was taking welfare measures under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and as per the directions of Transport Minister Harpal Singh Cheema. He said financial assistance was being provided to the dependants of employees in cases of accidental deaths.
Juneja said Satpal Singh, who was posted as a conductor at the Patiala Depot, died in a road accident in 2025. Describing PRTC employees as part of his “family”, he assured Satpal Singh’s family of continued support if they required assistance in the future.
He said the Rs 65.50 lakh compensation was provided under the corporate insurance terms of the agreement between PRTC and Punjab & Sind Bank, aimed at extending financial support to the bereaved family.
PRTC MD Manisha Rana said the assistance included an insurance amount of Rs 40 lakh and Rs 18 lakh towards the education of the deceased employee’s children. The family is also receiving monthly pension support through ESI/EPF, she said.
Rana said PRTC stood with its employees and their families in both moments of happiness and sorrow.
PRTC AMD Navdeep Kumar, GM Patiala Depot Jatinderpal Singh Grewal, DCFA Rajesh Kumar, GM Maninderpal Singh Sidhu and Amanvir Singh Tiwana were also present. Representatives of Punjab & Sind Bank, including RM Upasana Dhar and DRM Sukhwinderjit Singh, besides representatives of various unions and PRTC employees, attended the occasion.
