A uniquely designed Lord Ganesha idol based on the theme of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ has emerged as a major attraction in Hyderabad ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi, drawing large numbers of devotees as the 10-day festival begins on Monday.
The idol and the accompanying puja pandal in the Lalita Bagh area have been designed around India’s envisioned development and technological progress, with robotic frames giving the installation a contemporary appearance while retaining its spiritual character.
The pandal has been erected by the Mallikarjun Nagar Youth Welfare Association as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations of Ganesh Chaturthi.
Shrikant, who designed the pandal around the ‘Viksit Bharat’ concept, said the theme was chosen to raise awareness about the vision of a developed India by 2047.
“We have installed the idol of Lord Ganesha in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India. We chose the ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ theme to inform people about this vision. We designed the pandal and the idol by visualising what India will look like in 2047,” he said.
The organisers said they have attempted to combine patriotism with devotion. A key feature of the pandal is a model juxtaposing a bullet train with a bullock cart to depict the country’s journey from traditional modes of transport to modern technology.
Sushil Kumar, an associate of Shrikant, said posters displayed at the pandal highlight development initiatives in areas including manufacturing and agriculture, while showcasing the organisers’ vision of India’s progress towards 2047.
The organisers said the previous year’s pandal and idol were based on the ‘Operation Sindoor’ theme and received appreciation from visitors. This year, Lord Ganesha has been depicted in an armoured avatar as part of the Viksit Bharat theme.
According to the organisers, cultural programmes will also be held alongside puja and havan rituals during the celebrations, which will continue for 11 days.
The installation has become a focal point for devotees preparing to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi, with the organisers seeking to convey a message of development, technological advancement and patriotism through the festive display.
