Kalyan Baisla, accused in the Gurugram hit-and-run case involving woman biker Sia, has been arrested in Rajasthan’s Dausa, officials said on Monday. He is expected to be brought to Gurugram soon.
The arrest came after Gurugram Police earlier in the day added an attempt-to-murder charge to the FIR following a complaint by Sia and her family seeking stringent action.
Police had taken suo motu cognisance of a video showing a car hitting a woman biker on Golf Course Road and registered a case at Sector 56 police station. After examining CCTV footage and conducting the investigation, police added Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which relates to attempt to murder and carries a punishment of up to 10 years.
The latest development followed the submission of Sia’s written statement to the Station House Officer of Sector 56 police station. Police were also recording her detailed statement as part of the investigation.
Sia’s family member Deepankar said they had sought charges including attempt to murder, hit-and-run and harassment. He said Sia was experiencing severe muscle pain and had been under considerable stress following the incident.
Deepankar also said Sia had confirmed that four people were inside the car and that she had clearly seen the faces of two occupants.
Haryana Minister Gaurav Gautam said strict action would be taken against anyone found guilty, regardless of their identity.
However, Advocate Naveen Baisla, representing the accused’s family, denied the allegations and claimed the incident was an accident. He alleged that the bikers had been provoking Baisla and said the car lost control near a U-turn before touching the motorcycle.
The defence also denied any deliberate attempt to harm the biker, saying Baisla had instead asked the riders to slow down.
Police said the investigation is continuing and further action will follow based on the evidence.
