Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has clarified that he has no plans to retire from work anytime soon, putting to rest speculation triggered by a recent blog post.
The 83-year-old actor addressed the reports on his personal blog on Monday night and explained that his use of the word “retire” had been interpreted out of context.
In his latest post, Bachchan wrote in Hindi, which translates to: “No, sir, I am not retiring from work; in English, it means I am now going to sleep!!! And, sir, you are not invited to come there.”
Speculation began after Bachchan ended an earlier blog entry with the words “and I retire”. Some readers interpreted the remark as a possible reference to his acting career.
In that earlier post, the veteran actor had discussed how his blog entries were sometimes misunderstood and expressed amusement over the ways in which his words were interpreted and reported.
His latest clarification makes it clear that “retire” was being used in the context of going to bed rather than stepping away from acting or his professional commitments.
Bachchan continues to maintain a busy professional schedule. He is currently hosting the 18th season of Kaun Banega Crorepati, the popular quiz show with which he has been associated for more than two decades.
In recent blog posts, the actor has also offered glimpses into the demanding nature of his work routine. He revealed that he had once worked continuously from 7 a.m. one day until 7 a.m. the following morning.
Bachchan said the work had to be completed on schedule as the first broadcast date for the latest season of KBC had already been announced.
The clarification is expected to end the speculation over whether his earlier reference to retirement signalled a decision to step away from his long-running acting and television commitments.
