Iran Says No Talks with US Until Its Conditions Are Met

Iran has ruled out negotiations with the United States until its conditions are met, amid renewed tensions between the two countries and growing uncertainty over diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict.

Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, made the statement early Tuesday in response to US President Donald Trump’s claim that Tehran wanted to reach a deal “quickly and badly” and that Washington could resume negotiations.

Rezaei urged Iran’s public not to be distracted by what he described as mixed signals from Trump, noting that US statements had shifted between rejecting negotiations and expressing readiness for talks.

“No talks until Iran’s conditions are met. Period!” Rezaei said in a post on X.

The remarks come after a June 18 memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran on ending the regional conflict on multiple fronts, including Lebanon. Under the understanding, the two sides were expected to hold negotiations within 60 days, with the deadline falling on August 17. However, the status of the proposed talks remains unclear following subsequent escalations.

Meanwhile, two fishing boats were reportedly targeted in a drone attack off Iran’s southern coast on Monday night, with several fishermen reported missing.

The attack took place near Kargan and Larak Island, according to Ahmad Nafisi, deputy governor for political and security affairs in Hormozgan province. Search-and-rescue operations were launched, while authorities said further details would be released after an investigation.

Separately, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy claimed that the supertanker EL GAIA caught fire after striking naval mines while attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz through what it called a “forbidden” route south of the waterway.

The IRGC said efforts to contain the fire were unsuccessful and reiterated that the Strait of Hormuz remained closed and under the control of Iranian naval forces. The claims could not be independently verified.
