Hollywood actor Jennifer Lawrence has recalled an embarrassing yet hilarious incident in which she mistakenly believed an older woman at a party was legendary actor Elizabeth Taylor, who had already died at the time.
The incident was highlighted in an old clip from The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, originally aired on November 18, 2015, and recently shared on the show’s Instagram account.
Lawrence recalled the incident from the awards season surrounding her film Silver Linings Playbook. She said she was at a party, drinking champagne in a corner, when an older woman approached her and began complimenting her.
In her mind, Lawrence immediately assumed the woman was Elizabeth Taylor.
“I just went, this is Elizabeth Taylor, who was dead at the time, who’s still dead,” Lawrence recalled, adding that she did not realise her mistake as the conversation continued.
She said she enthusiastically praised the woman for her films and fashion appearances, even though she could not name any of them.
Lawrence recalled telling the woman how “unbelievable” she was before grabbing a friend passing by and announcing that she had just met Taylor.
Her friend quickly corrected her, telling her, “No, it’s not.”
Lawrence said she was then left embarrassed and had to make a quick exit.
The video was captioned, “@jlaw thought she met Elizabeth Taylor #FallonFlashback”, with the original air date mentioned as November 18, 2015.
Elizabeth Taylor, one of Hollywood’s most celebrated stars, died of congestive heart failure in March 2011 at the age of 79. She had been hospitalised for about six weeks before her death after experiencing symptoms related to heart failure.
