New Delhi, September 14, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Delhi government and the city BJP will launch a series of initiatives to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday on September 17 and his completion of 25 years in public service, including projects worth more than Rs 8,000 crore under the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra announced the programme on Monday, with Yamuna cleaning set to be a key focus of the campaign.

Gupta said the Delhi government would inaugurate and lay foundation stones for Yamuna-related projects worth around Rs 8,000 crore during the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’.

“Yamuna cleaning is a matter of faith for us, for every Indian and every Delhi resident. Therefore, cleaning the Yamuna is not a one-day project for us. We are continuously working on it,” she said.

She added that along with physical contributions and voluntary service for cleaning the Yamuna, the government would dedicate its preparations for the project to the people.

Malhotra said a three-day ‘Sewa Setu Abhiyan’ would also be organised across all Delhi constituencies to provide information about Central government welfare schemes and help citizens enrol for benefits.

To engage young people, the Delhi BJP will organise a ‘Seva First Innovation Challenge’ in educational institutions in consultation with mentors and teachers, Malhotra said.

Gupta said infrastructure projects worth Rs 1.25 lakh crore had been given to Delhi by the Prime Minister, including completed, ongoing and planned projects.

She cited Yashobhoomi and Bharat Mandapam as examples of infrastructure that helped Delhi host the BRICS Summit. Congratulating Modi on the summit, Gupta said the two-day event had made Delhi a centre of global diplomacy and reflected India’s growing role in the world.

Malhotra said Modi’s 25 years of public service included 13 years as Gujarat Chief Minister and more than 12 years as Prime Minister. He said the Prime Minister’s birthday had traditionally been observed as ‘Seva Saptah’ or ‘Seva Pakhwada’, with a focus on public service and extending government benefits to eligible people.

He said more than 200 schemes had been launched since Modi became Prime Minister in 2014 and claimed that people across the country had benefited from at least one of these schemes.

Malhotra also cited the administration of 220 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses and the provision of free foodgrains to 81 crore eligible ration beneficiaries as examples of the government’s initiatives.
