Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Tuesday congratulated the party’s office-bearers and workers after BSP candidates won 19 seats in Rajasthan’s municipal elections, while alleging that irregularities during recounting prevented the party from securing an even better result.
In a post on X, Mayawati said several BSP candidates were defeated by narrow margins of only a few votes during recounting, which she attributed to alleged irregularities in the government machinery.
She said the BSP’s performance in Rajasthan was encouraging and congratulated party workers and office-bearers at all levels for their efforts.
Mayawati also highlighted what she described as improved BSP performances in recent local body elections in Punjab and some other states, saying these results were also worthy of appreciation.
She expressed confidence that the party would build on these gains and perform better in the forthcoming Assembly elections as well as the next Lok Sabha elections.
Meanwhile, the ruling BJP emerged as the leading party in Rajasthan’s urban local body elections, winning 4,179 wards compared with 3,613 secured by the Congress.
The BJP also obtained clear majorities in four of the state’s 10 municipal corporations.
The Congress, however, secured a majority in the Bikaner Municipal Corporation and registered a significant victory in the Jhalawar Municipal Council, regarded as a stronghold of former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.
The results provide a broader picture of the competitive political landscape in Rajasthan’s urban local bodies, with the BSP also seeking to expand its electoral presence in the state.
