Nottinghamshire have signed India fast bowler Mukesh Kumar for the final two matches of the 2026 County Championship season, the English county club announced on Monday.
The 32-year-old seamer has made 26 international appearances for India and taken 32 wickets, including three Test matches. His move to Nottinghamshire will be his first stint with a domestic team outside India.
“I am really pleased to sign for Nottinghamshire at an important time in the season. I can’t wait to arrive in England and test myself in county cricket,” Mukesh said.
“I want to contribute as much as I can while I am here to help Nottinghamshire to success, and I am looking forward to working with the coaches and my new teammates,” he added.
Mukesh, who represents Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League, brings an impressive first-class record to Trent Bridge. He has taken 233 wickets in 61 matches at an average of 21.79, including 10 five-wicket hauls.
His best match figures of 10/50 came while playing for Bengal against Bihar in the Ranji Trophy in February 2024.
The seamer arrives in England in competitive rhythm after helping East Zone win the Duleep Trophy in Chennai. Nottinghamshire head coach Peter Moores welcomed the signing, saying Mukesh’s recent match practice made him an ideal addition for the crucial final phase of the season.
“We’re really excited to get Mukesh over at what is a crucial time of the season. He comes straight off the back of a really competitive game in the Duleep Trophy Final, in which he was on the winning team and played a pivotal role in securing the win for East Zone,” Moores said.
He added that Mukesh’s quality was unquestionable given the competition for places in the Indian team and said Nottinghamshire were delighted to have secured a bowler who was “match-ready and in full competitive mode” ahead of two important fixtures.
There has also been speculation over India pacer Mohammed Shami potentially joining a county side for the closing stages of the Championship season, although no deal has been announced.
