Two youths were stranded on a rock at Bihar’s Manjhar Kund waterfall in Kaimur district for nearly three hours after a sudden rise in water flow left them unable to return to safety.
The incident triggered panic among tourists at the popular waterfall as the youths became surrounded by rapidly flowing water. According to eyewitnesses, rainfall in the area caused the water level to rise sharply, prompting people at the site to move towards safer locations.
The two youths reportedly climbed onto a higher rock as the current intensified. The flow became too strong for tourists to approach them or for the youths to safely climb down.
Videos recorded by visitors showed the two men standing on the rock while water rushed around it from multiple directions.
Eyewitness Rajiv Sharma said he had visited Manjhar Kund with family members when he noticed several youngsters making social media reels near the waterfall. He said two young women who were also filming managed to move away before the water level rose, while the two youths later became trapped.
Tourists repeatedly called out to the stranded men and urged them to remain in a safe position. With no safe route down, the youths reportedly remained on the rock for around two-and-a-half to three hours as visitors watched from a distance.
They were eventually able to climb down after the water flow subsided and reached safety. Their safe return brought relief to the tourists who had witnessed the incident.
Some tourists alleged that the two youths had consumed alcohol before the incident. However, the allegation was not independently confirmed.
Another eyewitness claimed that similar incidents had occurred at Manjhar Kund and raised concerns over the alleged availability of alcohol in the area. He urged the administration to examine the matter and strengthen safety arrangements around the waterfall, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall and rapidly changing water levels.
