Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has been named Germany’s Men’s Player of the Year, while Vincent Kompany won the Coach of the Year award, completing a historic individual honours sweep for the Bavarian club.
Bayern’s Giulia Gwinn was named Women’s Player of the Year, making it the first time the men’s and women’s awards have gone to players from the same club.
Bayern president Herbert Hainer congratulated the winners, describing the achievement as a reflection of the club’s strength across men’s and women’s football.
“A Bayern double – never before have the men’s and women’s Player of the Year awards gone to the same club. Congratulations to Harry and Giulia, as well as our coach Vincent,” Hainer said.
Kane enjoyed a prolific campaign, scoring 61 goals in all competitions as Bayern secured a domestic double by retaining the Bundesliga title and winning the German Cup. He also scored a hat-trick in the German Cup final against Stuttgart.
The England captain received 272 votes in Kicker magazine’s annual poll, conducted among 659 voters. Bayern teammate Michael Olise finished second with 203 votes.
Kompany also secured the Coach of the Year award with almost half of the votes, finishing ahead of defending winner Julian Schuster of Freiburg.
Kane recently claimed the European Golden Shoe for the second time after scoring 36 Bundesliga goals last season.
Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said Kane had established himself as one of the biggest individual award winners in football.
“He’s the first Englishman ever and the first Bayern player for five years – another milestone in an outstanding career,” Dreesen said, while also congratulating Kompany and Gwinn.
The awards came shortly after Bayern retained the German Supercup with a 2-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund. Kane did not score but contributed to the win.
Bayern will begin their Bundesliga title defence next Saturday against VfB Stuttgart.
