Srinagar, August 22, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday conducted searches at 10 locations across Srinagar, Kupwara, Anantnag, Pulwama and Budgam as part of its probe into an alleged cross-border terror conspiracy involving Pakistan-based handlers and a network of local Over Ground Workers (OGWs).
According to the NIA, the local associates were allegedly providing logistical and other support to terrorists who had infiltrated into Jammu and Kashmir. The searches were aimed at collecting documentary, digital and material evidence and establishing the alleged roles of individuals linked to the local support network.
The agency said evidence relevant to the case had been secured during the searches and was being examined and corroborated with material gathered earlier.
The case originated from an FIR registered at Zakoora Police Station in Srinagar and was subsequently re-registered by the NIA at its Jammu branch under Section 23 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, Sections 7 and 25 of the Arms Act, 1959, and Section 4 of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908.
The investigation began following the arrest of an alleged OGW linked to the proscribed terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) at a naka point late on March 31, 2026. A hand grenade and live ammunition were allegedly recovered from his possession.
The NIA said its subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Pakistani terrorists allegedly connected with the conspiracy, besides establishing the identities and alleged roles of members of the local support network.
Investigators are examining alleged links between Pakistan-based handlers and their local associates, who were allegedly used for communication, logistical arrangements, movement and concealment of terrorists, shelter, reconnaissance and other forms of facilitation.
The probe is also examining the financial trail, communication channels, movements of the accused and the source of arms and explosives to establish the full network and the extent of its activities.
The latest searches are part of the continuing investigation into the larger alleged conspiracy and the mechanism used to facilitate cross-border terrorism. The NIA said it was working to identify all persons involved and determine their respective roles.
Further legal action, including arrests or recoveries, will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
