Actor Sanjay Kapoor has recreated his elder brother Anil Kapoor’s iconic look from the 1994 romantic drama 1942: A Love Story, drawing attention to the film’s return to theatres in a restored version.
Sanjay shared a collage on Instagram featuring a still of Anil Kapoor from the Vidhu Vinod Chopra-directed film alongside photographs of himself dressed in a similar vintage ensemble.
The actor wore a dark flat cap, navy V-neck T-shirt and denim, completing the look with a moustache reminiscent of Anil’s appearance in the film. Sharing the pictures, Sanjay captioned the post, “Humshakhal, #throwback, @anilskapoor (sic).”
His post comes as the 8K-restored version of 1942: A Love Story has returned to cinema halls, 32 years after its original release.
Anil Kapoor, who starred in the film, marked the occasion on Friday by sharing a reel from a screening of the restored version. “Thank you to everyone who came and made the evening so special,” he wrote.
He also encouraged audiences to revisit the film, describing its return as an opportunity to experience its songs, nostalgia and cinematic appeal on the big screen once again.
1942: A Love Story stars Anil Kapoor and Manisha Koirala in the lead roles, with Jackie Shroff, Danny Denzongpa, Anupam Kher, Pran and Brian Glover also featuring in key roles.
The film follows Naren, played by Anil Kapoor, and Rajjo, played by Manisha Koirala, whose romance develops despite their contrasting family backgrounds. Their relationship is threatened by the political upheaval surrounding the Indian revolutionary movement.
The film also holds a special place in Indian music history as the final film work of legendary composer R.D. Burman, who died before its release.
