Punjab Transport Department has brought down pendency in Driving Licence (DL) and Registration Certificate (RC) services to 0.36 per cent, with more than 99 per cent of applications being disposed of within the prescribed timelines, Transport Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said on Wednesday.
Cheema disclosed the figures while chairing a state-level performance review meeting through video conferencing. The review covered 12 key public services notified under the Punjab Transparency and Accountability in Delivery of Public Services Act, 2018.
State Transport Commissioner Parneet Shergill, along with Sub-Divisional Magistrates-cum-Licensing and Registering Authorities and Regional Transport Officers from across Punjab, participated in the meeting.
According to the Minister, the department received 15,55,958 applications for Registration Certificates between January 1 and August 17, 2026. Of these, only 3,673 remained pending beyond the prescribed timelines, resulting in a pendency rate of 0.24 per cent.
For Driving Licence services, 2,71,146 applications were received during the same period, of which 2,871 cases were pending beyond the prescribed timeframe. The pendency rate for DL services stood at 1.06 per cent.
Together, the department received 18,27,104 applications for DL and RC services, with only 6,544 pending beyond the designated timelines, taking the combined pendency rate to 0.36 per cent.
Cheema said the figures reflected the department’s monitoring and streamlined disposal mechanisms, adding that the Bhagwant Mann-led government remained committed to citizen-centric governance and hassle-free delivery of public services.
He directed all Licensing and Registering Authorities and Regional Transport Officers to maintain the existing efficiency and give priority to cases pending beyond the prescribed timelines. He also instructed officials to strengthen internal monitoring and tracking at their respective levels to ensure transparent and timely service delivery.
