Punjab Police conducted 610 raids across the state on Wednesday as part of its ongoing ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign against gangsters and their associates, leading to the arrest of 344 people and the recovery of five weapons.
The operation, which entered its 211th day, was carried out at identified and mapped locations linked to associates of gangsters. Police teams from all districts conducted the raids in coordination with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab.
The ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign was launched by Punjab Police Director General Gaurav Yadav on January 20, 2026, with the stated objective of making Punjab a gangster-free state.
With Wednesday’s arrests, the total number of people arrested under the campaign has risen to 62,221. Police also initiated preventive action against 216 individuals and arrested three Proclaimed Offenders (POs) during the latest operation.
Punjab Police said citizens can anonymously share information about wanted criminals, gangsters and criminal activities through the Anti-Gangster Helpline at 93946-93946.
Meanwhile, the police continued its anti-drug campaign, ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, for the 536th consecutive day. During the latest drive, 83 alleged drug smugglers were arrested and 9.7 kg of heroin, 500 grams of opium, 325 intoxicant pills and drug money amounting to Rs 13.01 lakh were recovered.
The cumulative number of drug smugglers arrested under the campaign has now reached 76,085.
As part of its de-addiction efforts, Punjab Police also persuaded 19 people on Wednesday to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment.
