Former YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) MP V. Vijayasai Reddy on Wednesday announced that he will launch a new political party in Andhra Pradesh, marking a return to active politics after stepping away from electoral politics last year.
Speaking to the media after offering prayers at the Tirumala temple, Vijayasai Reddy said the new party would be launched on behalf of the people and would seek to raise their voice.
The former Rajya Sabha member said he would unveil his political roadmap at a press conference in Vijayawada later this month.
Vijayasai Reddy, once a close aide and key strategist of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, had resigned from both the party and the Rajya Sabha in January 2025. At the time, he had announced his retirement from politics and said he would not join any political party.
He had described the decision as a personal one and said he would remain indebted to the YSR family for its support over four decades and across three generations.
A chartered accountant and policy practitioner, Vijayasai Reddy was associated with the YSR family for four decades as its personal auditor. During the tenure of Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy as Chief Minister, he was also appointed a member of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) trust board.
Following YSR’s death in a helicopter crash in 2009, Vijayasai Reddy became closely associated with Jagan. He remained with Jagan after the latter left the Congress and launched the YSR Congress Party in 2010.
Vijayasai Reddy was named accused number two in the disproportionate assets case registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against Jagan. He was arrested by the CBI in 2012 and spent around 100 days in jail before securing bail. The agency had accused him of being the key figure behind the creation of several shell companies through which funds were allegedly routed into firms associated with Jagan, including Jagathi Publications.
After the YSRCP came to power in Andhra Pradesh in 2019, Vijayasai Reddy emerged as one of its prominent leaders. As leader of the YSRCP parliamentary party, he played a significant role in securing the BJP-led NDA’s support for the state and the party.
He later contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Nellore but was unsuccessful.
