Sri Anandpur Sahib MP Malvinder Singh Kang on Wednesday said Punjab had no place for the BJP’s communal politics, asserting that the state’s people had consistently upheld communal harmony, brotherhood and democratic values.
Kang made the remarks while interacting with the media during a visit to villages in the Kharar Assembly constituency, which falls under the Sri Anandpur Sahib parliamentary constituency.
Taking a swipe at the BJP over the Ayodhya Ram Temple donations issue, Kang said the party had repeatedly invoked the name of Bhagwan Shri Ram but had failed to take exemplary action against those accused of wrongdoing in connection with temple donations.
Referring to the Special Investigation Team’s clean chit to two trustees in the alleged donation misappropriation case, Kang said the outcome was expected and alleged that the BJP was “playing with the faith and devotion” of Ram devotees. He maintained that Punjabis would reject any attempt to divide society along communal lines.
Kang also criticised the BJP’s frequent changes of its Punjab in-charges, claiming that it reflected the party’s failure to establish a political foothold in the state. He said people were satisfied with the performance of the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government and appreciated its welfare initiatives, governance and development-oriented policies.
On the arrest of senior AAP leader Satyendar Jain, Kang termed it a “political gimmick” and alleged that such actions in the past had amounted to political harassment without producing meaningful outcomes. He claimed the latest action was linked to apprehensions over the performance of the Punjab government and asserted that the BJP would not win the trust of Punjab’s people.
During the visit, Kang handed over two drinking water tankers to residents of Andheri and Mirzapur and inaugurated three open gyms at Bhagat Majra, Bari Karoran and Ward No. 7 of Naya Gaon under MPLAD funds.
According to Kang, ₹16.75 lakh had been allocated for the two tankers and three open gyms.
Sarpanches of the respective villages, along with local AAP leaders and workers, were present during the programmes.
