The Shiromani Akali Dal’s student wing, Students Organisation of India (SOI), received a major boost on Tuesday with several student leaders from rival organisations joining its ranks.
Those who joined SOI included Punjab University SOPU president Kudratvir Singh Sekhon, former NSUI state general secretary Shaganpreet Singh and Aam Aadmi Party student wing ASAP’s girls’ wing in-charge Sahar Sidhu, along with their supporters.
Former Punjab Education Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal leader Dr Daljit Singh Cheema welcomed the new entrants into the organisation. SOI president Ranbir Singh Dhillon was also present on the occasion.
Welcoming the student leaders, Dr Cheema said they would be accorded full respect and support by the party and would receive complete backing in their activities related to student issues.
Ranbir Singh Dhillon said the induction had strengthened SOI and asserted that the Shiromani Akali Dal had consistently stood with students and would continue to do so. He pointed out that party president Sukhbir Singh Badal himself had been a student of Panjab University and therefore understood student-related issues closely.
As part of the organisational expansion, Shaganpreet Singh was appointed National Secretary of SOI, while Kudratvir Singh Sekhon was entrusted with the responsibility of president of its Chandigarh unit.
Other leaders present included Yadvinder Singh Yadu, Paramjit Singh Dhillon, senior SOI leaders Harmandeep Randhawa, Harkamal Singh Bhuregill and Ameer Singh Pannu.
