Sunita Ahuja has withdrawn the divorce petition she had filed against actor Govinda, the actor’s manager Shashi Sinha confirmed to IANS on Wednesday.
Sunita was spotted at the Bandra family court in Mumbai earlier in the day, accompanied by her son Yashvardhan Ahuja. Following her court appearance, Sinha confirmed that she had gone to withdraw the petition.
“The petition Sunita ji had filed in the court earlier; she had gone to withdraw it,” Sinha told IANS.
The development comes amid a prolonged period of public speculation surrounding the couple’s marriage. Sunita had recently made allegations concerning Govinda’s relationship with young actress Komal Rani Swarnkar. Govinda subsequently responded through a social media video, asking Sunita to be mindful of her language and refrain from making statements that could affect his reputation. He also urged her not to interfere with his professional work.
Asked about the withdrawal of the petition, Sinha said Sunita had filed the case and had now chosen to withdraw it herself.
“Govinda ji has never badmouthed anyone. Sunita Ji had filed the case, and she herself has now withdrawn it. It is a family matter; something must have come to her mind so that she decided to withdraw the case,” he said.
Sinha was also asked whether the couple’s children, Tina and Yashvardhan, had influenced Sunita’s decision. He declined to comment but said that none of the family members wanted the marriage to end.
“I won’t be able to comment on this. Govinda, Sunita, Yashvardhan, Tina, none of them wished for the divorce to take place,” he said, adding that the matter had remained in the public domain for nearly two years and that the family had been unhappy with the attention it received.
“However, this step taken by Sunita ji is extremely welcomed,” he added.
Govinda and Sunita married in March 1987. The couple kept their marriage private until the birth of their daughter Tina in 1988.
