Chandigarh, August 19, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Punjab Police, in coordination with central agencies, has secured the deportation from Malaysia of three alleged operatives of the Davinder Bambiha gang who are wanted in multiple criminal cases, including murder, extortion and an alleged plot to carry out a hand-grenade blast in Ludhiana.
The action was carried out by the Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell (OFTEC) of the Counter Intelligence Wing as part of the Punjab government’s ongoing Gangstran Te Vaar campaign, launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
The three deported accused have been identified as Jaspreet Singh alias Jas Behbal, a resident of Faridkot, and Ajay Singh and Pawandeep Singh, both residents of Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan.
According to Punjab Police, all three were arrested at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi following their deportation from Malaysia and were subsequently brought to Punjab for further investigation.
DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav said the three were key Malaysia-based operatives of the Davinder Bambiha gang and were wanted in cases involving murder, extortion and explosives. He said their alleged criminal activities also included a planned hand-grenade attack in Ludhiana with links to Pakistan’s ISI.
ADGP Counter Intelligence Amit Prasad said the deportation followed a months-long intelligence-led operation during which the movements and activities of the accused were tracked. Coordinated efforts eventually resulted in their detention in Malaysia and subsequent deportation to India, he said.
IGP OFTEC Ashish Choudhary said Jaspreet Singh alias Jas Behbal had travelled to Malaysia in June 2019, where he came into contact with a fugitive gangster and subsequently joined the Davinder Bambiha gang. He allegedly rose to become an important operative of the gang.
Jaspreet has been formally arrested in connection with the 2025 murder case involving Yadwinder Singh and the driver of Jeewanjot Singh Chahal alias Jugnu, a former Panjab University Chandigarh leader, police said.
The other two accused, Ajay Singh and Pawandeep Singh, have also been described by police as key operatives of the gang. According to the police, they had tasked ground-level associates with carrying out a hand-grenade attack in Ludhiana in 2025.
The planned attack was allegedly foiled by Ludhiana Commissionerate Police, which arrested two associates of the accused and recovered a P86 Chinese hand grenade from their possession on October 27, 2025.
The Punjab Police said OFTEC was established on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to track criminals operating from abroad and expedite extradition or deportation proceedings to bring wanted accused back to Punjab for legal action.
