Former Indian cricketer Manpreet Singh Gony and international gold medallist athlete Kunar joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday, citing their appreciation for the policies and development initiatives of the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann welcomed the two sportspersons into the party and formally inducted them in the presence of Cabinet Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian. Mann also honoured them with siropas on the occasion.
Welcoming the players, the Chief Minister said their association with the AAP would strengthen the party’s efforts to promote sports and inspire Punjab’s youth.
“Today, the Aam Aadmi Party family has witnessed another very remarkable addition. The support of such youth, who have made Punjab proud on the sports fields, will give further strength to our campaign to create ‘Rangla Punjab’. Their experience will be of great help in inspiring the youth towards sports,” Mann said.
Gony and Kunar said they were impressed by the policies of the Punjab government and the development work being undertaken across the state.
“We are highly impressed by the policies of the Punjab Government led by CM Bhagwant Singh Mann and the work being undertaken for the development of the state. We will work with complete sincerity for strengthening the party and for the welfare of Punjab,” they said after joining the AAP.
The induction of the two sportspersons adds to the AAP’s engagement with Punjab’s youth and sports community. Their entry also brings accomplished sporting personalities into the party’s political fold as the state government continues to highlight sports promotion as an important area of its policy agenda.
