A man in his 30s was fatally stabbed at a residence in Sydney’s inner-south, prompting a homicide investigation, Australian police said on Wednesday.
Officers were called to a reported assault at a unit in Waterloo, around 3 km south of central Sydney, at about 7:20 p.m. on Tuesday. They arrived to find the man suffering from stab wounds.
The victim was treated by ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital in critical condition. Police were informed at about 8:45 p.m. that he had died.
A woman who was also at the residence was assaulted and suffered minor injuries, Xinhua news agency reported.
Police established a crime scene at the property, while local detectives launched an investigation with assistance from the homicide squad. Authorities have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding the stabbing.
Two Arrested in Major South Australia Drug and Firearms Bust
In a separate operation, South Australia Police arrested a man and a woman after allegedly recovering large quantities of drugs, firearms and cash from a home where four young children were living.
Detectives executed a search warrant at a property in Angle Vale, about 32 km north of Adelaide, on Tuesday evening. Police said they seized 9.2 kg of methamphetamine, 3.3 kg of cocaine and 232 grams of MDMA.
The operation also resulted in the seizure of two revolvers and A$80,000 (about US$56,592) in cash.
A 33-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were arrested and charged with trafficking a large commercial quantity of a controlled drug, possessing a prescribed quantity of a controlled precursor, firearms offences and money laundering.
If convicted, they face maximum penalties of life imprisonment.
Acting Assistant Police Commissioner Catherine Hilliard said four children aged under six were living at the property with the two accused. She said police and other government agencies would take the necessary steps to protect the children’s welfare.
Hilliard described the seizure as one of the most significant drug seizures in South Australia’s recent history.
