Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said he will discuss the situation in the Union Territory with visiting US Ambassador Sergio Gor during their scheduled meeting, but will neither raise grievances nor seek solutions from Washington.
Speaking to reporters during an early-morning tour of Srinagar to review ongoing development projects, Abdullah said issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir must be resolved by the Centre and not by the United States.
US Ambassador Sergio Gor is scheduled to make his maiden visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday and is expected to meet Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Srinagar.
Abdullah said the meeting with the US envoy was taking place after a considerable gap and that he was looking forward to the interaction.
“I would prefer to listen to him more, but he is also coming to listen. Let us see what kind of discussion takes place,” the Chief Minister said.
He made it clear that while the regional situation would be discussed, he would not complain to the ambassador or ask him to resolve issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir.
During his Srinagar tour, Abdullah inspected several developmental projects and said most were progressing satisfactorily, although some required additional intervention from the administration to accelerate their implementation.
Responding to allegations of corruption in appointments raised against the BJP, the Chief Minister said the police, Crime Branch and Anti-Corruption Bureau did not come under his control.
“If corruption has actually taken place, an investigation should be conducted, a case registered and action taken against those responsible,” he said.
Sergio Gor has been serving as the US Ambassador to India since 2026 and has also held the position of US Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs since August 2025. He previously served as Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office from January to October 2025.
US President Donald Trump nominated Gor as Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs in August 2025. The US Senate confirmed his appointment in October.
