PM Modi Reviews West Asia Situation, Directs All-Out Efforts to Safeguard Interests of Indians

New Delhi, July 30, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday directed the government to make all possible efforts to safeguard the interests of Indian citizens and the Indian diaspora amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

Chairing a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), the Prime Minister reviewed the evolving geopolitical situation and assessed measures taken by various ministries and departments to ensure adequate supplies of energy and fertilisers, besides protecting Indian seafarers operating in conflict-affected regions.

According to an official statement, the meeting also reviewed the country’s fertiliser preparedness for the upcoming Rabi season. The Prime Minister directed officials to ensure uninterrupted availability of fertilisers and discussed alternative sources of procurement to maintain supply.

The safety of Indian seafarers serving on domestic and foreign-flagged vessels in conflict zones also came up for discussion. PM Modi instructed officials to establish a dedicated mechanism to provide timely information, emergency assistance and counselling services to seafarers and their families amid security concerns in the region.

Emphasising the importance of long-term energy security, the Prime Minister called for greater focus on renewable energy, including solar power and other non-fossil fuel-based sources, to strengthen India’s energy independence.

He also stressed the need for a whole-of-government approach in responding to challenges arising from the West Asia crisis and directed that a unified coordination mechanism be established for continuous monitoring of developments and swift implementation of necessary measures.

During the meeting, the Cabinet Secretary briefed the CCS on the current geopolitical situation and steps taken to secure adequate supplies of petroleum products, including liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and fertilisers.

The government said procurement sources for LPG have already been diversified and that the country’s stock position of major petroleum products remains adequate.

The Cabinet Secretary also informed the committee that sufficient crude oil availability has enabled Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) refineries to operate at more than 100 per cent capacity utilisation, ensuring uninterrupted production of petrol, diesel and other petroleum products.

He added that the government is expanding Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connectivity, strengthening the National Gas Grid, enhancing LNG import and regasification infrastructure, expanding City Gas Distribution networks and implementing time-bound pipeline connectivity projects under the Pipeline Infrastructure Order, 2026.
