Thousands of job aspirants staged a massive protest in Ranchi on Wednesday, alleging irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC), and warned of an indefinite agitation if their demands remain unaddressed.
The protesters said they would turn Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium into a permanent protest site on the lines of Delhi’s Jantar Mantar if the state government fails to ensure transparency in the recruitment process and resolve long-pending grievances.
The aspirants organised a ‘Constitution March’ from Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium, drawing participants from several districts across Jharkhand. The march began around 4 p.m. and continued despite intermittent rain.
Although heavy showers briefly interrupted the demonstration, participants resumed their march towards Albert Ekka Chowk after the rain subsided.
Authorities deployed a heavy police force along the route from Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium to Albert Ekka Chowk to maintain law and order during the protest.
Carrying banners, placards and posters, the demonstrators raised slogans demanding transparency, accountability and reforms in the state’s recruitment system. Several placards criticised the functioning of JPSC and JSSC, while others called for action over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations, including the Excise Constable recruitment process.
The protesters maintained that their movement would continue until the government addressed their concerns and ensured a fair and transparent recruitment process. They also announced plans to launch an indefinite dharna at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium, with the agitation expected to intensify in phases if no concrete action is taken.
The protest caused significant traffic disruptions across Ranchi. Vehicular movement remained affected on several major roads, including the stretch between Kachahari Chowk and Albert Ekka Chowk, while congestion was also reported on Main Road, Radium Road and Lalpur Road for several hours.
The demonstration continued till late Wednesday evening, with attention now focused on the government’s response and the protesters’ next course of action.
