Samsung on Wednesday announced that its latest foldable smartphones—the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8—have received more than 2.71 lakh pre-orders in India within just 72 hours of their launch, setting a new benchmark for the company’s foldable smartphone lineup.
The devices, launched in India on July 22, surpassed the company’s previous record, with Samsung noting that it had taken 15 days to achieve a similar number of pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7 last year.
According to the company, 45 per cent of the pre-orders came from Tier 2 cities and smaller markets, indicating growing demand for premium foldable smartphones beyond major metropolitan areas.
Samsung said the response reflects the increasing mainstream adoption of foldable technology in India, driven by consumers seeking innovative devices that combine productivity, entertainment and artificial intelligence-powered features.
JB Park, President and CEO of Samsung Southwest Asia, said the strong demand for the new Galaxy Z series highlights Indian consumers’ growing preference for advanced technologies that enhance productivity and creativity.
“The overwhelming response to our new Galaxy Z series highlights India’s increasing demand for innovative technologies that enhance productivity and unlock creative potential. These devices, offering personalised Galaxy AI experiences, are not only Made in India but also supported by our robust Indian R&D capabilities tailored to meet the dynamic needs of Indian consumers,” Park said.
He added that the significant share of pre-orders from Tier 2 cities points to the emergence of a strong new growth market for foldable smartphones.
Buoyed by the early response, Samsung said it expects the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8 to match the pre-order performance of its flagship Galaxy S26 series, launched earlier this year.
Samsung also highlighted that the Galaxy Z Fold8 has been designed to deliver an enhanced foldable experience, featuring a 10:16 cover display for everyday smartphone use and a 4:3 main display optimised for reading, gaming, streaming and multitasking.
