A court in Hyderabad on Wednesday remanded trainee IPS officer M. Uday Krishna Reddy to 14 days of judicial custody in connection with an alleged sexual harassment case registered against him by a fellow trainee officer.
Reddy, who was arrested by the Attapur Police on Tuesday, was produced before the Upperpally Court, which sent him to judicial custody until August 11. He was later shifted to Chanchalguda Central Jail.
The case stems from a complaint filed on July 18 by a 30-year-old woman trainee IPS officer, who accused Reddy of repeatedly sexually harassing her while they were undergoing training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad.
The complainant alleged that the accused subjected her to sexual harassment, stalking, wrongful confinement, physical assault and criminal intimidation. She also alleged that he sent abusive WhatsApp messages, secretly recorded a private video and forwarded it to her husband in an attempt to blackmail her.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including those relating to sexual harassment, voyeurism, stalking, wrongful confinement, voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation. Charges under Sections 66E and 67A of the Information Technology Act, relating to violation of privacy and transmission of sexually explicit material in electronic form, have also been invoked.
During the investigation, police reportedly took the accused to his residence in Ashok Nagar for scene reconstruction.
Reddy has denied all allegations, describing them as false in social media posts and expressing confidence in the judicial process.
He was hospitalised on July 21 after being found unconscious at a relative’s residence in Motinagar amid reports of an attempted suicide. Police, however, said preliminary findings suggested the incident was aimed at gaining sympathy.
In a purported handwritten suicide note, Reddy claimed he and the complainant had been in a consensual relationship since June 2025, including after her marriage. He denied allegations of coercion and claimed to possess photographs and videos to support his assertions.
After being discharged from hospital on July 22, Reddy was unavailable for several days, prompting police to form multiple teams to trace him. He later stated that he had travelled to his native village in Andhra Pradesh’s Prakasam district to visit his ailing grandmother and was arrested upon his return to Hyderabad on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Telangana High Court adjourned the hearing on Reddy’s petition seeking quashing of the FIR. During the proceedings, the Public Prosecutor informed the court that notice had not yet been served on the complainant. The court directed that notice be issued before the matter is taken up further.
