India’s AI Data Centre Expansion May Draw Up to $435 Billion Investment by 2030: Report

New Delhi, July 29, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

India’s growing artificial intelligence ecosystem could require investments of up to $435 billion by 2030 as the country rapidly expands its data centre infrastructure to support rising digital demand and AI adoption, according to a report by OmniScience Capital.

The report estimated that India’s operational data centre capacity may need to increase from the current level of around 1.6 gigawatts (GW) to 19–23 GW by 2030. Developing this scale of AI-focused infrastructure could require cumulative investments of approximately $350–435 billion over the next few years.

India is emerging as one of the world’s largest generators of digital data, contributing around 15–20 per cent of global data generation, while the adoption of artificial intelligence technologies continues to accelerate, the report said.

It noted that around $160 billion in investments have already been announced or are under implementation, reflecting strong momentum behind India’s ambition to become a major global AI infrastructure hub.

The report highlighted that the opportunity is not limited to data centre operators. Building AI infrastructure requires a wider ecosystem involving power generation, electricity transmission, transformers, switchgear, industrial cables, backup power systems, cooling solutions, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), networking, security and facility management technologies.

Together, these areas cover around 11–12 infrastructure segments, creating opportunities across multiple industries involved in the AI data centre expansion.

According to the report, operating 19–23 GW of data centre capacity by 2030 could require approximately 150–170 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity annually. This would account for nearly 6 per cent of India’s projected electricity demand by 2030 and could rise further by 2035.

The report said India’s power value chain alone includes more than 230 listed companies, while additional opportunities are expected in cooling, networking, security and other infrastructure segments.

“As one of the world’s fastest-growing digital economies, India holds immense potential in AI data centres. While domestic frontier AI model developers and semiconductor players are still emerging, the most direct path to participating in the AI revolution today is through non-compute infrastructure,” said Ashwini Shami, President and Chief Portfolio Manager at OmniScience Capital.

Shami added that companies operating in utilities, power transmission and electrical equipment are likely to benefit significantly as India’s AI infrastructure expands.
