Legendary singer Usha Uthup has reiterated that a song is always greater than the performer, emphasising the invaluable contributions of musicians and technicians to every musical performance.
During the grand finale of the singing reality show Indian Idol, Usha Uthup enthralled the audience with renditions of her evergreen hits, including Ramba Ho, Shaan Se and Hari Om Hari, filling the stage with nostalgia and energy.
Reflecting on her musical journey, the veteran singer said, “The song is always bigger than the singer, much, much bigger. That is exactly why we are here.”
She stressed that no performance is possible without the efforts of the entire team behind it.
“Without musicians and without technicians, nothing is possible. I have always believed that the song is always bigger than the singer,” she said.
Judge Shreya Ghoshal praised Usha Uthup’s enduring contribution to Indian music, saying, “We are living in the era of Usha Uthup ji.”
Adding to the memorable evening, Usha surprised the audience by performing her iconic song Darling Aankhon Se Aankhen Chaar Karne Do in Russian.
With a career spanning nearly five decades, Usha Uthup has delivered several timeless hits, including Hari Om Hari, Ramba Ho Ho Ho Samba, One Two Cha Cha Cha, Koi Yahan Nache Nache and Darling from Saat Khoon Maaf. She is also known for singing in multiple Indian and foreign languages while seamlessly blending pop, jazz, disco and Indian musical traditions.
