Abu Dhabi, October 3, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Captain Smit Machchhar, the Indian pilot injured while intervening during a mid-air attack aboard a flydubai flight, is recovering well and remains under medical care in the UAE, the Indian Embassy said on Saturday.

The embassy said it was in touch with Machchhar’s family and local authorities and was extending all possible support for his recovery. It also thanked the UAE government for the care being provided to the pilot.

“Indian braveheart Capt. Smit remains under excellent medical care & is recovering well,” the mission said in a post on X, adding that it was joining well-wishers in praying for his good health.

Machchhar was injured on Wednesday while attempting to stop a mid-air attack aboard flydubai flight FZ1073, which was travelling from Dubai to Israel. During the incident, another pilot allegedly attacked and stabbed him, causing the aircraft to begin losing altitude.

Despite his injuries, Machchhar opened the cockpit door, allowing passengers to enter and help overpower the attacker. He was subsequently stabilised while the aircraft made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Machchhar over a video call on Friday and praised his courage, presence of mind and composure during the incident.

“The whole country is praying for you,” Modi told him, adding that his actions had helped save the lives of passengers and crew members.

Machchhar has since received widespread recognition for his actions during the emergency, with people and leaders from across the world praising his bravery.
