Actress Komal Rani Swarnkar has strongly responded to allegations and speculation surrounding her alleged relationship with Bollywood actor Govinda, accusing some members of the film industry of interfering in her personal life and attempting to gain publicity by commenting on the controversy.
Swarnkar took to Instagram Stories on Friday to issue a lengthy statement, questioning why certain celebrities had publicly criticised her association with Govinda while remaining comparatively vocal about other issues.
The actress said that her appearance with Govinda at a Ganpati celebration, where they sought blessings for the success of their upcoming film Roopa, had been unnecessarily turned into a subject of public controversy.
Questioning the criticism, she asked why her appearance with the actor was being portrayed as a matter of shame or publicity-seeking when actors regularly appear alongside their co-stars at public events to promote films.
“We announced our film ‘Roopa’, not a romantic affair,” Swarnkar wrote, rejecting speculation about the nature of her association with Govinda.
She maintained that the two were working together and would continue to make public appearances in connection with their professional commitments. She also questioned the authority of those commenting on their relationship to interpret their joint appearances as evidence of a romantic involvement.
In her strongly worded post, Swarnkar also criticised unnamed actresses, alleging that some were using the controversy to remain relevant at a time when their own film careers were struggling. She accused them of commenting on her personal life while questioning their own public positions on marriage, sindoor and Indian cultural traditions.
The actress further expressed displeasure over what she described as hypocrisy among people who, in her view, were passing judgments on her character and personal choices.
Swarnkar said she was unconcerned about whether her critics considered her a good or bad person, adding that she believed some of the criticism stemmed from frustration over their own marital experiences.
Actors Kashmera Shah and Divya Khossla have also been among the film industry personalities reported to have criticised Swarnkar over her appearances with Govinda and raised questions about their association.
In her statement, Swarnkar accused her critics of attempting to associate themselves with her name to attract public attention. She also warned them against provoking her, suggesting that continued attacks could lead to scrutiny of their own past conduct.
Her remarks have added another dimension to the ongoing public controversy surrounding her association with Govinda, with the actress maintaining that their appearances together are linked to their upcoming film Roopa.
