Five Indian nationals aboard the Kuwait-flagged tanker MT Kazimah III were safely rescued after the vessel was struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Saturday.
The Indian Embassy in Oman said it coordinated the rescue operation and confirmed that all five Indian nationals had been safely brought ashore.
“Earlier today, the Mission coordinated rescue of five Indian nationals on board the Kuwait-flagged tanker MT Kazimah III, struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz. All 5 Indian nationals have been shifted ashore safely,” the embassy said in a post on X.
It thanked the Omani authorities for their continued support and assistance during the rescue.
The MEA also confirmed the safe rescue of the five seafarers and reiterated its commitment to the safety, security and welfare of Indian nationals working at sea abroad.
The incident comes days after another attack involving Indian seafarers off the coast of Oman. On September 23, the MEA said one Indian national was killed and 19 others rescued after the commercial vessel MV Cape Dao came under attack off Oman’s east coast.
The ministry had condemned the attack and said the Indian Embassy in Oman was coordinating with local authorities for the safe repatriation of the rescued seafarers.
The MEA has also expressed concern over continued attacks targeting commercial shipping in the region and called for dialogue and diplomacy to de-escalate tensions.
It said attacks on commercial vessels, seafarers and civilian infrastructure must end and that safe and unrestricted navigation and commerce through international waterways in the region should be restored at the earliest.
