Mumbai, October 3, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a Rs 93.44-crore bank fraud case against Mumbai-based Hanjer Biotech Energies, its directors and guarantors following a complaint by Punjab National Bank (PNB), and conducted searches at multiple premises linked to the company’s directors.
According to a CBI statement, searches were carried out on Friday at several premises in Mumbai as part of the investigation into the alleged loan fraud.
The agency registered the case on September 30, 2026, on a complaint filed by PNB’s SAM Branch in Mumbai. The accused include Hanjer Biotech Energies, its directors and guarantors, unidentified public servants and unidentified private individuals.
The case involves allegations of criminal conspiracy, cheating and offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act, resulting in an alleged wrongful loss of approximately Rs 93.44 crore to the bank.
The CBI alleged that the accused conspired to obtain a term loan of Rs 135 crore using invoices issued by a related party and subsequently diverted or siphoned off the funds for purposes other than those for which the loan had been sanctioned.
During Friday’s searches, the agency recovered and seized bank and property documents considered relevant to the investigation.
The CBI said the investigation was continuing to establish the full extent of the alleged conspiracy, determine the roles of all those involved, including public servants and private individuals, and trace the end-use of the loan funds.
In a separate case, the CBI on Friday arrested a Central Public Works Department (CPWD) executive engineer posted in Mumbai, his relative and three officials of a Mumbai-based real estate group in connection with an alleged Rs 50-lakh bribery case.
The case relates to the alleged payment of a bribe for the issuance of a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) for a land parcel.
Vikrant Verma, Executive Engineer with CPWD Mumbai; Saurav Gupta, a Pune-based relative of Verma; and Arvind Semwal, Vice President of Baya Company, were among those named in the FIR registered by the CBI on Thursday, an official said.
The arrested accused were produced before a Special CBI Judge in Mumbai on Friday, the official added.
