India opener Abhishek Sharma added two major milestones to his name during a blistering 61-run knock against Pakistan in the Asian Games gold-medal clash on Saturday, becoming the second-fastest batter to reach 400 sixes in T20 cricket and 100 sixes in a calendar year.
Abhishek smashed seven sixes and three fours in his 28-ball 61 at Karogi Sports Park as India opted to bat first in the final.
The left-hander reached the landmark of 400 T20 sixes in just 3,513 balls, surpassing Chris Gayle’s previous mark of 3,557 deliveries to become the second-fastest player to the milestone. Andre Russell holds the record, having reached 400 sixes in 3,027 balls.
The fastest players to 400 T20 sixes, by balls taken, are Russell (3,027), Abhishek (3,513), Gayle (3,557), Tim David (3,803), Kieron Pollard (3,944) and Nicholas Pooran (4,045).
Abhishek also became only the second player to hit 100 T20 sixes in a calendar year in fewer than 700 balls. He reached the mark in 651 deliveries in 2026, moving past Dewald Brevis, who took 653 balls in 2025, and Gayle, who needed 724 balls in 2016.
Russell again tops the list, having reached 100 sixes in a calendar year in 589 balls in 2019.
The Indian opener’s latest milestones came in a high-stakes Asian Games final against Pakistan. India retained the same playing XI from their previous match, with Arshdeep Singh, Yash Thakur and Vipraj Nigam among the players left out.
Pakistan made one change to their side, bringing in batting all-rounder Saad Masood in place of fast bowler Mohammad Wasim Jr.
Abhishek’s explosive start provided India with a strong platform in the gold-medal contest while further underlining his remarkable six-hitting numbers in T20 cricket.
