Lucknow, October 2, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday targeted the Opposition, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi with curbing the misuse of public funds and ensuring that government assistance reaches beneficiaries directly through their bank accounts.

Adityanath made the remarks after a theatrical performance based on ‘Namo Seva: Ankahi Kahaniyan’ (Untold Stories), organised in Lucknow as part of the ongoing Seva Sankalp Abhiyan.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana provides free foodgrains to poor families, describing it as a minimum guarantee to help ensure that no one goes hungry.

He also highlighted initiatives in infrastructure, employment, education and entrepreneurship, including schemes for young people, the expansion of the startup ecosystem and the establishment of IITs, medical colleges and engineering institutions.

Referring to the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi, Adityanath said farmers had been brought into the government’s agenda under Modi’s leadership and were benefiting from the scheme.

The Chief Minister also pointed to the expansion of highways, expressways, railways, metro networks and airports under the BJP-led Central government. He said Modi had turned the vision of enabling people from modest economic backgrounds to travel by air into reality.

Targeting the previous Samajwadi Party-led government in Uttar Pradesh, Adityanath recalled that the Opposition had questioned the purpose of opening Jan Dhan bank accounts, arguing that they would remain empty. He said the accounts had since helped facilitate the direct transfer of government benefits to the poor.

“Today, it has become evident that Prime Minister Narendra Modi emptied the pockets of those who used to loot public money and ensured that funds meant for the poor reached their bank accounts directly,” Adityanath said, adding that those who had previously pocketed public money had reason to oppose such measures.

He asserted that sectors addressed by the Modi government had gained a new identity under what he described as “New India”.

Recalling the challenges Gujarat faced during the 2002 earthquake and subsequent riots, Adityanath said Modi had taken responsibility for the state as Chief Minister and, through his leadership, transformed it into a model state.

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister also criticised the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, alleging that the country experienced corruption, disorder and policy inaction between 2004 and 2014. He said India faced economic and security challenges during that period and was counted among the “Fragile Five” economies.

Adityanath said that in 2014, rural communities, farmers, young people, women and the poor placed their faith in Modi’s leadership. He described the period since then as a “journey of service”, saying government initiatives were intended to benefit people without distinctions based on caste, religion, community, region or language.

He further argued that although government schemes had existed in the past, their implementation at the grassroots level had often been ineffective.
