Patna, October 5, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
RJD leader and Bihar Assembly Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav has announced a two-day protest programme across Bihar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Narendra Modi-led Central government, as part of the INDIA alliance’s campaign over alleged irregularities in the electoral process.
Yadav said Bihar, which he described as the birthplace of the INDIA alliance and a “cradle of democracy”, would once again become the centre of a major political movement.
Targeting the Election Commission’s 2025 Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Yadav alleged that the process marked the beginning of an assault on democratic institutions. “It was from Bihar that the dismantling of democracy began,” he said, asserting that those committed to democracy and the Constitution would not allow it to be destroyed.
According to the RJD leader, INDIA alliance constituents will organise protest marches across all blocks in Bihar on October 7 against CEC Gyanesh Kumar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The agitation will intensify on October 8, when Mahagathbandhan constituents are scheduled to hold sit-ins at district headquarters across the state. A separate march to the Governor’s House has also been planned in Patna.
“I will be present in Patna myself, alongside MLAs, MLCs and MPs. We will raise our voices against the way votes were looted; this amounts to the murder of democracy, which will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” Yadav said.
The INDIA bloc has been campaigning against the Election Commission over its handling of electoral roll revision and has demanded action against CEC Gyanesh Kumar.
An INDIA alliance meeting was held in New Delhi on September 30, with Yadav among the opposition leaders who discussed the alliance’s response to the Election Commission and its allegations of electoral irregularities.
The opposition’s campaign has also included protests in Bihar. On October 2, Grand Alliance constituents organised programmes demanding the CEC’s resignation and opposing the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
