BJP Accuses Congress of Repeatedly Targeting Indian Institutions Amid ECI Protest

New Delhi, October 6, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday accused the Congress of repeatedly targeting India’s institutions, including from foreign soil, amid the Opposition INDIA bloc’s protest march towards the Election Commission of India (ECI) headquarters in New Delhi.

The Opposition MPs were protesting against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and demanding his resignation over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Security personnel stopped the protesters midway through their march.

Addressing a press conference, BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi alleged that the Congress had questioned the credibility of several Indian institutions over the years.

“From the Indian Army to the Indian Air Force, from India’s defence sector to LIC, HAL, SBI, SEBI, the Judiciary, the media and vaccines, how many institutions of the country has the Congress accused so far?” Trivedi asked.

Targeting Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Trivedi said such allegations had also been raised by him during overseas visits. He referred to Gandhi’s March 2023 remarks abroad questioning why democratic institutions in the US, UK and Europe were silent about developments in India.

Trivedi also questioned the Congress’ objections to the presence of potentially erroneous or suspicious entries in electoral rolls. Citing the identification of alleged irregular beneficiaries in MGNREGA and ration card databases, he asked what, according to him, prevented such entries from existing in voter lists.

The BJP leader further linked the Congress’ electoral decline to factors predating the BJP’s rise to power, claiming the party was already out of power in 228 Lok Sabha constituencies before the 2003 SIR.

He also criticised Rahul Gandhi over his participation in election campaigns and questioned whether the Congress had adequately scrutinised voter lists and other electoral records in constituencies where bypolls were being held.

Trivedi alleged that the Congress was engaging in “theatrics” instead of using available mechanisms such as voter lists and CCTV footage to raise concerns about electoral irregularities.

The allegations and political claims made by the BJP leader come amid a broader Opposition campaign questioning the electoral roll revision process and the Election Commission’s functioning.
