Actress Anushka Sen is looking forward to representing India on the international stage with the Korea-India co-production Jeju Olle, which has been officially selected for the 27th Newport Beach Film Festival (NBFF) in the US.
The film, which also stars Korean actor Kang Hyung-seok, will have its North American premiere on October 21 as part of the festival’s Korean Spotlight programme. It will screen at 7:30 p.m. at Screen 1 of Regal Edwards Big Newport, the festival’s largest auditorium.
Speaking about the selection, Anushka said representing India across different parts of the world has always been a dream for her.
“Representing India in different parts of the world has always been a dream for me. Every time I get an opportunity to represent my country, it feels super special, and I feel extra grateful for it,” she said.
Jeju Olle holds particular significance for the actress as it brings together Korean and Indian storytelling, music and cultural elements.
“Jeju Olle is very close to my heart, so I’m super delighted that we’re starting the film’s journey with its North American Premiere at the Newport Beach Film Festival in America,” she added.
Written and directed by Jin Kwang-Kyo, the film follows Alisha, an Indian star who withdraws from the spotlight after losing her beloved cousin and longtime manager. She travels to Jeju Island to honour a promise they had made together and unexpectedly meets Ha Sun-woo, a former K-pop idol who has also retreated to the island following setbacks in his career.
As the two spend a week exploring Jeju, their chance encounter develops into a deeper connection through music and shared experiences. The film explores love, healing and new beginnings while blending Korean romance with the musical spirit of India.
Shot in Korean, Hindi and English, Jeju Olle aims to bridge the two cultures through its story and music.
“It’s incredibly exciting to see a film that brought together two cultures that now travel from India and Korea to North America. Being able to take our work and represent India on an international platform is something I feel very grateful for,” Anushka said.
She added that she was looking forward to celebrating the film with its team and experiencing it with a new audience.
The film is produced by Storyworks Co., Ltd. and Lucifer Production.
