New Delhi, October 6, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
The Association of Students for Alternative Politics (ASAP), the student wing of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has announced a protest march to Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on October 10 against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
ASAP Co-in-charge Eeshna Gupta said the organisation would join student groups, democratic organisations and individuals to demand the resignation and prosecution of the CEC, withdrawal of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and comprehensive reforms in the Election Commission of India (ECI).
In a post on X, Gupta alleged that thousands of people across the country were raising concerns over the functioning of the Election Commission. She also alleged that protesters and journalists had faced police action, manhandling and sexual assault, and said the movement for democratic accountability was continuing to grow.
In a statement, ASAP said the protests reflected growing public concern over the functioning of the ECI and claimed that students and citizens were coming together to defend constitutional and democratic values.
The organisation said it stood in solidarity with those participating in the demonstrations and appealed to democratic organisations, student groups and individuals committed to constitutional values to join the October 10 protest.
The announcement comes amid heightened Opposition criticism of the Election Commission. Earlier on Tuesday, INDIA bloc MPs marched towards the ECI headquarters in New Delhi seeking the CEC’s resignation but were stopped midway by security personnel.
The AAP and several left-wing student organisations, including the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and All India Students’ Association (AISA), had also protested against the CEC at Jantar Mantar last week, with several protesters detained by police.
