New Delhi, October 6, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Left parties are scheduled to hold a joint protest march to the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer’s (CEO) office on Wednesday over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, party sources said.

The march is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and will proceed towards the CEO’s office at Kashmere Gate. The AAP and Left parties are expected to join the Congress in the ongoing opposition campaign targeting Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the SIR exercise.

The planned march comes a day after INDIA bloc MPs attempted to march to the Election Commission of India (ECI) headquarters in New Delhi, demanding the resignation of the CEC.

The opposition leaders were stopped by security personnel before reaching the ECI office. Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi climbed a police barricade and waved the national flag as security forces prevented the MPs from proceeding further.

Rahul Gandhi and Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were briefly detained by police, according to media reports.

Speaking to reporters, Rahul Gandhi claimed that around 300 MPs from both Houses of Parliament had been stopped from meeting the Election Commission. He said the MPs wanted to meet CEC Gyanesh Kumar and two other Election Commissioners but were prevented from reaching the office.

The INDIA bloc leaders, including the Gandhi siblings, subsequently staged a sit-in at Akashvani Bhavan. They were later removed by police and detained on Tuesday night.

The AAP and DMK had stayed away from Tuesday’s INDIA bloc protest. However, the AAP and Left-linked student organisations, including the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and All India Students’ Association (AISA), had staged a separate protest against the CEC at Jantar Mantar last week, during which several protesters were detained.

The BJP has criticised the Opposition’s protests. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju described the agitation as “drama” and urged the Congress and other opposition parties to focus on serving the people if they wanted to secure a public mandate.
