Uttar Pradesh Congress president Aradhana Misra ‘Mona’ on Tuesday praised Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi for bringing together leaders and MPs of various Opposition parties during the INDIA bloc’s protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in New Delhi.
Misra said the participation of major Opposition leaders demonstrated unity within the INDIA bloc and alleged that the Election Commission’s actions were being influenced by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
“INDIA bloc worked really well today. I want to congratulate the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, for bringing everyone together,” she said, adding that the Opposition had come together to question the Election Commission over electoral issues.
She criticised the police action during the protest, alleging that the leaders were prevented from reaching the Election Commission’s office despite seeking answers on behalf of the people.
“The way the police force stopped the leaders was sheer death of democracy,” Misra said. She also questioned the alleged deletion of more than 13 crore votes and said the Opposition was fulfilling its responsibility by raising such issues.
Misra condemned the detention of Opposition leaders, particularly Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and described the restrictions imposed on leaders attempting to reach the Election Commission as undemocratic.
She also invoked the Congress party’s history of sacrifices for the country, saying the Gandhi family had contributed to the nation and was seeking to protect the Constitution.
Referring to the BJP’s political use of religious issues, Misra said Congress respected and worshipped both Lord Ram and Lord Ganesha.
She concluded by expressing confidence that more people across the country would gradually support the Opposition’s position.
