Kerala’s information technology sector is entering a major expansion phase, with fresh investments and new office infrastructure emerging from the state capital in the south to Kozhikode in the north.
The expansion combines large private investment in Kozhikode with additional capacity at the established Technopark campus in Thiruvananthapuram, reflecting the state’s efforts to develop multiple technology hubs.
A key project is a Rs 600-crore tower being developed at Cyberpark, Kozhikode. Spread across 2.5 acres, the Grade-A IT facility will have nine lakh sq ft of built-up space and is designed to accommodate multinational companies, high-growth start-ups and research and development centres.
The project is expected to generate more than 10,000 direct IT jobs and is scheduled for completion within two years. It is part of a larger plan by a private group to develop 12 million sq ft of office space across Kerala over the next few years.
Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan, who performed the groundbreaking ceremony, said the government wanted Kozhikode to develop into a major IT destination alongside Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi.
He said projects covering around 50 million sq ft were expected to be completed across the state by 2030, with the potential to generate around two lakh jobs.
Industries, IT and AI Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty said Kozhikode was poised to follow the growth trajectory of Technopark and Infopark and emerge as a major technology hub.
Meanwhile, Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram is preparing to add another two lakh sq ft of IT office space at its Phase III campus. It has invited e-tenders for the design and construction of a prefabricated IT office building on a design-and-build basis.
The project has a completion period of 15 months and will add capacity to the 90.02-acre Phase III campus.
Technopark Phase III currently houses 540 companies and provides employment to around 84,000 professionals, with 13.147 million sq ft of IT built-up space.
The simultaneous expansion of Cyberpark and Technopark signals a broader shift in Kerala’s technology landscape, with the state seeking to move beyond concentration around a few established centres and build a network of technology hubs.
With Grade-A infrastructure, private investment, start-ups and R&D facilities developing alongside established IT ecosystems, Kerala is looking to expand both its technology footprint and employment opportunities.
The emerging Kozhikode hub could provide Malabar with a new economic engine while strengthening Kerala’s position as a destination for technology companies and skilled professionals.
