Punjab Police on Tuesday conducted a statewide Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) at 274 identified drug hotspots as part of the ongoing ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign, resulting in the arrest of 386 people and registration of 233 FIRs.
The operation was conducted simultaneously across all 28 police districts on the directions of Punjab Police Director General Gaurav Yadav. The targeted locations were identified as points of sale of drugs and psychotropic substances.
During the operation, police recovered 4.1 kg of heroin, 1.4 kg of opium, 4 kg of poppy husk, 4,237 intoxicant tablets and capsules and Rs 5,500 in alleged drug money from those arrested.
Special DGP Law and Order Praveen Sinha, who personally supervised the operation, said the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign, launched on March 1, 2025, had so far resulted in the arrest of 82,739 alleged drug smugglers following the registration of 64,598 FIRs across Punjab.
According to police, the campaign has led to the recovery of 4,198 kg of heroin, 1,009 kg of opium, 481 quintals of poppy husk, 1,750 kg of ganja, 65.85 lakh intoxicant tablets and capsules, 78 kg of ICE and Rs 22.58 crore in alleged drug money.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Police’s ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign continued on its 259th day, with 260 people arrested during the latest operation.
Police said four weapons were also recovered, taking the total number of arrests under the campaign since its launch to 76,590.
Preventive action was initiated against 229 people, while 12 others were verified and released after questioning. Three proclaimed offenders were also arrested during the operation.
