New Delhi, October 5, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Delhi Police have arrested two alleged criminals linked to the Rashid Cablewala gang following an exchange of fire in the Usmanpur Yamuna Khadar area of Northeast Delhi, officials said.
The arrested men, identified as Wasim and Kaifi, sustained bullet injuries to their legs when police personnel retaliated after the duo allegedly opened fire while attempting to escape during a late-night operation.
According to police, the North East Delhi District Special Staff had received information about the movement of the two suspects and set up a trap near Usmanpur Yamuna Khadar, under the New Usmanpur police station area.
When the suspects were spotted and asked to stop, they allegedly tried to flee and fired at the police team. Police returned fire, injuring both men in their legs before overpowering and taking them into custody. They were later shifted to a hospital for treatment.
Police said the accused had allegedly demanded extortion money from a businessman in Bhajanpura on October 2 and fired shots in the air during the incident. A case was subsequently registered.
Investigators said the two men were associated with the Rashid Cablewala gang, which is active in Northeast Delhi. Preliminary investigation has indicated that Rashid Cablewala is suspected of working for the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, police said.
During the encounter, bullets allegedly fired by the accused struck the bulletproof jackets of two police personnel. The policemen were not injured.
The arrested men are being questioned as police investigate their criminal backgrounds and possible links with other members of the gangs.
The action comes days after the Delhi Police Crime Branch arrested alleged Takkar gang member Ghulam Khwaja alias Ale, 30, of Dabri, in connection with an attempt-to-murder case. Khwaja, who had been declared a proclaimed offender, allegedly disclosed information about the gang’s activities in Dwarka, Dabri, Uttam Nagar and adjoining areas of Haryana during interrogation.
