Actress Bhumi Pednekar has revisited her experience of working on the 2023 comedy-drama Thank You For Coming, describing the film as a journey of “pure liberation” as it marked three years since its release.
Bhumi also wished the film’s director Karan Boolani on his birthday. Taking to Instagram, the actress shared a video featuring a memorable scene from the film and reflected on what the project meant to her.
Calling her character Rabiya Daal her “spirit animal”, Bhumi wrote, “The pure liberation I felt doing this film 3 years of Thank You For Coming. Also happy birthday @karanboolani, you’re the best.”
The video features Rabiya speaking about happiness, self-acceptance and the importance of not apologising for making personal choices.
“Why will she say sorry? Will you forget by saying sorry? I didn’t forget. I asked you a question, you said sorry. I gave you an answer, you said sorry. I made you my boyfriend, you said sorry. I left my boyfriend, you said sorry,” the character says.
Rabiya goes on to question why people view happy individuals as threatening before declaring, “We deserve happiness. I deserve happiness. I won’t take away my happiness by being shameless.”
The character further reflects on her own identity, saying she is “sensitive, loving, respectful, non-judgmental” and should not be defined by a mistake.
Released in 2023, Thank You For Coming featured Bhumi in the lead role as Rabiya Daal. Directed by Karan Boolani, the film explored female friendship, self-discovery, relationships and societal expectations through the story of a young woman navigating her personal life.
